First Presbyterian Church is praying for a creative and energetic individual who will lead our ministry with children from preschool – middle school. The ideal candidate is someone who can make faith engaging and relevant to children, strives to connect children to the rest of the church, has a passion for helping children belong in a faith community, and is committed to working with a church that welcomes and values all people.

This is a 10 hour per week position, with at least three hours dedicated to Sundays. Salary is $15 per hour. Benefits include two weeks paid vacation per year, eligible after six months of service, and time off for federal holidays, except those that fall on Sundays (Christmas, Easter, etc.). A three-month paid discernment time is required at the start of the position to make sure that this is a good fit for all parties. A level one background check will be conducted prior to hiring.

PRIMARY JOB DESCRIPTION
The Director of Children’s Ministry (DCM) creates and leads children’s year-round educational programs, with the assistance of volunteers from the congregation, the Pastor and, for special seasonal programs, the Music Director.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education level: Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
Experience desired: Experience working with children, ideally in an educational setting or other environment that involves organizing and implementing programs. Experience in a church is preferred.
Qualities desired: Loves working with children; is a team player; is an open-minded Christian; nurtures appropriate and healthy relationships with children, parents, members, and staff; has a basic understanding of the Bible and a desire to share God’s love with children; effectively uses creativity, energy, and excitement to keep things fresh and children engaged; is organized and a good planner, yet able to “think on their feet” in a pinch; is coachable and able to make good use of creative feedback
Technology Skills: Proficiency with computers and social media; has knowledge of, or is willing to learn, online educational web sites; ability to send out text messages and use video cameras
